the mathematics of work
role merit = f(work + challenge + opportunity + location) the merits of each role is a function of the work, the challenge it presents, the opportunity to learn or grow, and the location of the project.  each role should be evaluated on the sum of these inputs. for example, interesting work would be a (+), and might mediate the (-) effect of a bad location. if the work is challenging and...

“Two years after the start of the worst global financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s, policy-makers from around the world gather this week to think about how to prevent it from happening again.” Has it really been 2 years already?

how could you, kinokuniya
1) I found book that Kinokuniya did not have - ‘The Plot Against America’ by Phillip Roth. Flabbergasted. It never occurred to me it would be out of stock in Kunokuniya since 2008. 2) Remembered the annoying thing about Kinokuniya - they wrap and seal their books in the literature section, so you can’t have a browse through the pages. how very not conducive to browsing!

an assortment of entries from MLIA
Today, I wanted to comment on a friend’s status, but it was only a few seconds old and I didn’t want to seem like a stalker. I waited a few minutes and then commented. i have occasionally been known to use phrases such as “i look like an underwater nun.” pajamas with barnyard animals are cool. cows, pigs, whatever. mills and boon novels make me laugh. my tall dark handsome mysterious prince with rippling muscles and smouldering eyes is about to rock up to my door on a white horse at any moment now. traffic can be a bugger at this time of the day. ...
